Packing rehearsal
Put the intended contents into a simple test kit
Before opening a large bag catalog, create a small load list: phone, wallet, keys, bottle, tablet, laptop, documents or a change of clothes. Record the largest item's dimensions and whether it must lie flat, stand upright or pass through a zipper opening.
This makes the category meaningful. An evening handbag, a commuting backpack and an overnight travel bag should not be judged by the same capacity or strap questions.

Exterior size and usable space are different

Shape shelf
Match the construction to the way the bag is carried
Shoulder bags
Check strap drop, closure access and whether the base holds its shape when filled.
Crossbody bags
Record full strap range, attachment points and whether the bag turns or tilts under load.
Tote bags
Measure the opening, handle drop and support for a laptop or documents.
Hobo bags
Ask how the soft body, lining and closure behave when partly filled.
Bucket bags
Check base diameter, drawstring opening and internal organization.
Women's assortment
Use this only as a catalog label, then compare each actual shape and use separately.
Inside view
Compartments need dimensions and a purpose
Ask for an unobstructed interior view with the pockets open. Record whether dividers are sewn, removable or only decorative, and whether a device sleeve has padding and a closure. For wallets, check closed and open dimensions, card-slot count, bill height and coin closure instead of relying on “large” or “compact.”
Count hardware pieces that affect use: zippers, snaps, rings, feet and strap clips. A photo may reveal where they are, but the responsible source must support material or durability claims.
Materials and load
Describe what can be inspected and what remains a claim
- Identify the stated outer, lining, trim and hardware materials separately.
- Inspect seam position, edge finish, reinforcement and symmetry on the sample.
- Test zippers and fasteners with the intended load in place.
- Record color in neutral light and keep screen variation in mind.
- Weigh the filled test bag and note pressure points during a short carry.
- Do not convert a texture photo into a fiber, leather or performance claim.
Carton and inquiry
Quote the exact bag, pack state and mix
Bags can occupy very different carton volumes depending on whether they are stuffed, nested, folded or individually boxed. Ask which packing state the dimensions and weight describe, how handles and hardware are protected and whether shape recovery has been assessed.
